Vision

To be recognized as a centre for excellence in Biochemistry that provides an atmosphere to acquire skills in identifying the link between biological and chemical fields and transform it to enhance the quality of life.

The science of Biochemistry embraces a culture of interdisciplinary approach that transcend traditional boundaries in teaching and in pursuit of research. It plays a pivotal role in providing prudent solution to multitude of global challenges and to address the millennium goals. The huge strategic potential of such resourceful discipline like Biochemistry should be tapped only at the Institutional level.

With this viewpoint, the Department of Biochemistry was established with the inception of the under graduate program in 1999 in amalgamation with Zoology and Microbiology. With an objective to equip and empower the students with job potential and self-employment, the UGC sponsored Add-on course in Clinical Biochemistry was launched in 2005.To open up new vistas in the fast emerging areas of Biochemistry and to develop knowledge in the advanced areas of Biochemistry, the Post graduate program in Biochemistry was introduced in 2006.

From its inception till date, the department has been the road map in evolving dynamics in teaching and learning to meet the incredible challenges. The enduring faculties are firmly grounded in the unifying theme of bringing together experience and innovation to achieve optimization in teaching and learning and to instill confidence and resilience in students for a better learning outcome..

The Department is devoted to cutting-edge research that addresses dramatic changes that are transforming the field of biochemistry to embark and unravel many great episodes in the intellectual history of mankind as we move into the twenty-first century. Biochemistry undoubtedly is the central discipline of all natural sciences and is the wave of the Future

The mission of the department is to focus on the holistic development and to give a competitive edge by providing tools like an extensive curriculum and dynamic teaching methodologies to achieve their strategic goals and to emerge as an acclaimed benchmark discipline in research.

Describe prokaryotic binary fission, the eukaryotic cell cycle, mitosis and meiosis. Compare and contrast the events of cell cycle and its regulation. Summarize the definition, sources and applications of stem cells. Explain the communications of cells with other cells and to the environment. They understand cell signaling and how it regulates cellular functions. Also how its dis regulation leads to cancer and other diseases.]

BCP-405 [CO405.1 acquire the practical skill on isolation and cloning of gene into the vector, followed by the transformation of ligated vector into the competent host cell. They acquaint the knowledge and skill in screening of transformed colony by plasmid isolation and restriction digestion of plasmid DNA. The student gets adequate skill in Northern Hybridization (using non-radioactive probes). The students get adequate skill Cloning, Expression and purification of recombinant proteins.]

BCP-405 [CO405.2 The students get adequate skill in extraction and isolation of enzymes (phosphatases / esterases / amylases) from Insect / Microbial / Plant sources, further they are enriched with methods of fractionation by Ammonium sulfate, acetone and pH precipitation.]
