Department of Zoology, mLAC organised a Student lecture series 2.0 for the BSc and M.Sc Zoology students on 27th February 2024. The session started with a brief introduction about the lecture series by Ms. Bhavya, HOD, Dept of Zoology and she also introduced the speaker Ms.Varalakshmi P, Student of I year B.Sc.
Ms. Varalakshmi P started the session with the introduction of the topic DNA analysis and Facial Reconstruction of Human Skull”. She explained a case study where the Bangalore Police identified the culprits by DNA analysis of the victim and this is the first case in Bangalore where the police has extracted DNA from the victim’s bone and used it for the culprit identification. She has also done an interview of the investigating police officer which she played during the session. She explained one more case study where Delhi police used Facial reconstruction of the victim to identify the culprit. The session was mainly oriented towards the extraction and use of DNA from victims and using that to identify culprits by police.
Students gave positive feedback about the session and referred it as very informative and eye opening session.
