Exam Guidelines

Official examination guidelines, assessment schemes, and revaluation procedures for all Undergraduate and Postgraduate programs.

Internal Assessment (IA)

Internal Assessments are a crucial component of continuous academic evaluation. For each semester, two IA tests of one-and-a-half-hour duration will be conducted for both UG and PG programs. These tests are typically held in August/September for odd semesters and March/April for even semesters.

  • Re-test Policy: No re-test will be given for standard IA Tests. However, in special cases where a deserving student officially represents the college in NCC, NSS, or recognized sports tournaments during the test period, a re-test may be arranged.
  • Minimum Criteria: There are no minimum Internal Assessment marks required to be eligible to appear in the End Semester Examination.

Maximum Marks Distribution in IA:

  • 💯 100-mark Subjects: Maximum IA marks allocated are 50.
  • 📘 70-mark Subjects: Maximum IA marks allocated are 30.
  • 🔬 Practical Papers: Maximum IA marks allocated are 15.

Minimum Requirements for Passing

To successfully clear a course, a student must meet the following criteria:

  • Theory Passing Criteria: A candidate shall be declared passed only if she secures a minimum of 25 out of 70 OR 35 out of 100 in the End Semester Theory exam, PLUS a minimum of 40% overall (which includes the IA marks).
  • Practical Passing Criteria: A minimum of 12 out of 35 is required in the End Semester Practical exam, PLUS a minimum of 40% overall (20 out of 50, including IA marks).
  • (Note: No minimum marks are required in IA or for Co-curricular & Extra-curricular Activities to pass).

End-Semester Examinations (ESE)

Examinations for both theory and practical courses are held at the conclusion of each semester.

  • Duration & Marks: The standard duration of the ESE is 3 hours (though this may vary for specific courses). Theory subjects are conducted for either 100 or 70 marks. Practical subjects are conducted for 35 marks (UG) and 70 marks (PG).
  • Clearing Backlogs: Students are allowed a maximum 2-year grace period beyond their normal program duration to clear any backlog papers. No extensions are granted beyond this period.

Attendance & Bonus Marks

A strict minimum of 75% attendance is mandatory in each theory and practical paper to be eligible to appear in the ESE. A student who fails to meet this requirement is not eligible to write the semester examination and must repeat the semester.

To encourage consistent participation, a maximum of 5 bonus marks are awarded based on attendance percentage:

Attendance Percentage Bonus Marks Awarded
95% – 100% 05 marks
90% – 94% 04 marks
85% – 89% 03 marks
80% – 84% 02 marks
75% – 79% 01 mark

Photocopy & Revaluation Procedures

If a student wishes to challenge their evaluation, the following procedures apply:

  • For Undergraduate (UG) Students: Requests for a photocopy of the answer script or for revaluation must be submitted to the Controller of Examinations within 10 to 15 working days from the date the results are published, along with the prescribed fee. After revaluation, the higher of the two marks will be considered final.
  • For Postgraduate (PG) Students: Because there is already a mandatory double-valuation process for all PG End Semester papers, photocopies are not provided. However, the facility to apply for revaluation is still available.

⚠️ IMPORTANT REVALUATION RULE

Students are eligible to apply for Revaluation only if they have scored at least 15% of the maximum marks in that specific paper. Please note that there is absolutely no provision for an "improvement examination" once a paper is cleared.
