The second year B.Sc Physics students visited ICTS to attend Public Lectures on what is common between falling cats and the quantum hall effect on 10-8-2018.The students and the faculty had a good interaction with the speaker. Students were keenly involved in knowing the ideas of the quantum Hall effect which is one of the most fascinating discoveries of 20th century.
The students found greater interest in understanding the mathematical structures relevant for “cat landing physics” which is very similar to the ones necessary to understand quantum physics of light and the standard model of elementary particles. They also gained knowledge on geometrical and topological concepts which can emerge as a result of a conspiracy between interacting microscopic particles. The students were very enthusiastic and the visit was motivational for their further study and research.
