Department of Botany

VISION OF THE DEPARTMENT

Our vision is to provide quality research, teaching and outreach on the processes of life with a focus to address modern day challenges in Plant Sciences.

MISSION OF THE DEPARTMENT

  • To nurture an environment of excellence by attracting and supporting the outstanding students.
  • To foster independent learning and thinking capacities of students and their employability skills that enrich their professions and communities.
  • To focus on the practices that enable analytical understanding of plants and their environments at local, regional and global levels, in the various areas of plant sciences.

OVERVIEW OF THE DEPARTMENT:

The Department of Botany at mLAC came into existence in the year 1972 and has since been striving for excellence in creating, applying and imparting knowledge in Botany and also in establishing the importance of Basic Sciences in the field of research which could thereby, motivate students to pursue higher education.

The Department has a well-equipped, spacious laboratory with equipment required for curriculum-based learning as well as complex research activities, thus, creating an atmosphere where academic learning and research co-exist. The carefully chosen faculty go the extra mile by encouraging students to present papers at conferences and also applaud students' participation in various extra-curricular and co-curricular activities at collegiate and intercollegiate level.

KEY MILESTONES OF THE DEPARTMENT:
